PKF China Desk Meeting a resounding success

2023-10-03

We were delighted to host our inaugural China Desk Meeting in Nanjing from 25 to 26 September 2023.

The event saw delegates travel across the globe and spend two days together collaborating and progressing our China Desk initiative. Co-sponsored by the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Commerce and the Gulou District People’s Government, the conference offered a unique opportunity to engage with the government and businesses alike, cementing PKF Global’s pivotal role in facilitating inbound and outbound Chinese investment.

We were honoured to welcome senior government officials, clients and representatives from business on day one of the conference. Following an opening address delivered by the Vice Mayor of the Municipal Government and the District Mayor, presentations showcased foreign investment opportunities within the city of Nanjing and the Guyou district. Sessions also addressed the opportunities and challenges for Chinese businesses of establishing operations overseas.

The first day culminated in the official opening of the PKF China Desk Station, with the presentation of a brass plaque formally recognising PKF China as the hub of our China Desk initiative. PKF Global CEO, Theo Vermaak, presented certificates to all China Desk representatives who attended the meeting.

Day two focussed on our PKF Global strategy, with delegates attending sessions on business development, opportunities to further enhance global collaboration within our network, best practice for serving Chinese clients and developing the role of our China Desks.

Theo Vermaak, said, ‘We are honoured to come to Nanjing and cooperate with the local government to create global investment opportunities for more Chinese enterprises. In the future, we also hope to further strengthen the opportunities for global collaboration and lay practical foundations for serving more Chinese customers.’

Feedback from attendees of the China Desk Meeting has been resoundingly positive. PKF Melbourne partner, Ryan Lu, said, ‘The event was just incredible…From the wonderful event itself to the perfectly organised after-conference activities and the unparalleled warmth and welcome extended by our Chinese colleagues – it was truly something special…May the friendships and the memories last forever, so proud of being part of the PKF family!’

What’s more, the conference attracted media coverage, with Chinese television broadcaster, NBS, reporting from the event and interviewing Theo Vermaak. Watch their special report here.
